Bio
David William Hopper
David was born in a small town in central Illinois. He moved to the suburbs of Chicago that back-dropped nearly all John Hughes movies where he discovered his love for film. Around the same time, he was given a VHS camera as a Christmas present. He was drawn to the camera like a moth to light. He spent countless weekends making silly movies with friends and family and discovered a potential career. After college with the dream of movies in his head, David followed the advice of Horace Greeley and headed west to California.
Once in Los Angeles, David began a career in film production as a runner for Dick Clark Productions. It was assumed since he was from Illinois that he would know how to drive a truck. David exaggerated his abilities and thought he could fake the skills long enough to learn. Never has learning on the job gone so poorly. Soon after a near car wreck, technically a truck wreck, it was determined he should look for work elsewhere. David took on a slew of production jobs working on a number of forgettable independent films. And, he even worked as a stand-in for Matthew Perry, which might be the most humiliating job in production; he was a human prop. Finally, he landed a job at John Malkovich’s production company, MR. MUDD, working in film development. While working on GHOST WORLD, an academy award nominee, David realized he wanted to serve in a creative position in the production of a film. He left the company to pursue those skills.
He entered the School of Cinematic Arts at U.S.C. to earn his MFA in film production. It was during film school; David discovered his passion for editing which offered two important components to him; collaboration and story telling. After graduating with honors, David began a career as an editor. He has worked on a number of award winning projects that have premiered at some of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.
David lives in the Santa Monica canyon with his lovely wife, two charming girls and a growing menagerie of animals.
